At Munich Oktoberfest 2024, I decided I needed access to this beer year around ~ and cheaper than getting it from Total Wine. I tell Christyi “I think I’m gonna start brewing my own beer" and she says “go for it”. I very much expected resistance, but nope - she drinks beer too, and she had told me I needed to find a hobby other than "screen time".
As you can see, Lil' K approved!
Once home, I was talking at work one day and my buddy Ed hears me. He says he’s been brewing for 20 years. We start talking and he guides me to what gear to buy (no stupid “pre-built kit”), tells me where to research, and curates my first recipe with me (no sticky-beer kits). We go to his house and brew my first batch in Dec '24.
I haven’t looked back. I brewed 5-gal batches for a few months, then in April, Ed sells me his 30-gal tri-pot set. Now, I was brewed double-10gal batches about once a month. Ed continues to be my sounding board and taste-tester to give me honest feedback.
Probably not the smallest... but ~ lets say ~ "the biggest-little home brewery in town" (homage to Reno). All post-boil equipment was stuffed into a 40x47" closet, with all brew-day gear in an equally small space in the garage.
About 6 months later I added 2x 6' tall cabinets in my living room. (Cuckoo clock hand-carved by Oli in the Black Forest ~ that story later.)
So, I've basically became a fanatic homebrewer! I shopped big when needed, buying over 150 lbs of grain during each seasonal sale - and hops by the pound. you heard that right... not ounces, but pounds!
Christyi completely supports me! She insisted I come up with a name & logo and once I locked in on my style she decided I needed Swag. She made me t-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, and hoodies. Keychain, notepads & ink pens, beer glasses of every shape & size to include 4-oz flight set... basically if you could heat-press or laser it, it gets my logo!
Yes, she did proclaim that I am a "brewmaster". I humbly accept her praise.
🤣😂🤣😎
